"Boulle Marquetry And Tortoiseshell Wall Light, Regency Style"
Cartels often decorate woodwork friezes. In decorative art, cartel is the name given to the frames of clocks and wall clocks placed on a wall. These clocks are framed with an ornamental motif that ends, at the bottom, in a more or less capricious corbel. The main characteristic of Boulle marquetry is a tortoiseshell veneer (genuine tortoiseshell) combined with metal, most often copper / brass. This technique appeared as early as the 16th century, but it was André-Charles Boulle (1642 – 1732) who undoubtedly brought this marquetry technique to the height of its finesse and artistic creativity. The Régence style is transitional and falls between the Louis XIV and Louis XV styles, around 1700 to 1730. Selling price: €6,000 as is. Possibility of restoration.
