A Regence Period (1715 - 1723) Bracket Clock.
A Regence period tortoise shell and brass marquetry bracket clock with its base. The bracket clock is surmounted by a figure wearing a helmet and holding a bird. Below the dial a heron - symbol of perpetual rebirth and a female figure holding an oil lamp and a book with the inscription Ultima latet - La dernière (heure) t'est cachée. Chiselled gilt bronze ornamentation. White emailed dial with Roman numerals for hours and Arabic numerals for minutes on a background decorated with stylized flowers and leaves. The plate of the mechanism signed "Bonneual à Paris". Scrolls ornamentation.
