Late 18th Century Pastel: Young Woman At Her Toilet
The art of preparing oneself to appear in society for women as well as for men of the late 18th century is a must. The passage which in front of one's powder room, which in front of one's dressing table to make up and powder oneself is part of this ritual. This moment of the day inspired the artists who made it a privileged setting for the portraits of the good society of the old regime. This elegant young girl has just taken the opportunity to read a letter which she still holds rolled in her hand. In a pretty oval frame which does not seem to be French, this pastel must have been dusted off and put back on a clean background in the sixties. The gilding of the frame is in good condition, like the rest of the work.
