"Watercolor Circa 1840: The Old Fortified Village "
The first half of the 19th century was marked by a taste for the medieval style, the first attempts to conserve this heritage, initiated by Prosper Merimee through his tour of inventorying sites and monuments in danger, manifested this sensitivity even in institutions. This modest and delicate watercolor is a clear example of this renewed attention. In an elegant perspective, the village on the banks of the river, still proud of its sumptuous vestiges of the prestigious past, is sketched with elegance and a touch of nostalgia. This charming snapshot is signed, but difficult to decipher. The pass and the frame are original (a small chip in the corners of the frame). The watercolor is very fresh and very bright. Dimensions of the watercolor at sight: 15 cm x 8 cm
