Burma, mid-20th century, very pretty loom pulley carved from a single piece of wood depicting a Nat (or Nak). He is depicted standing on top of the pulley, hands clasped. The Nats or Naks are princely figures deified in Burma for many centuries in parallel with Buddhism. Their worship is practiced in order to obtain special protections.
