"Pair Of Carved Vases – Japan, Meiji Period (1868–1912)"
A rare and impressive pair of hexagonal vases from Japan, Meiji period, carved from a natural bone-like material. The finely engraved decoration depicts traditional Japanese scenes: figures in kimono, birds, peonies and other floral motifs. Each vase is topped with an openwork structure containing a sculpted figurine, evoking a miniature temple or pavilion. Typical pieces of Japanese art exported at the end of the 19th century, in the midst of the Japonisme movement. Dimensions: Height: 32 cm Width at the base: approx. 8 cm
