"Engraving "the Landing Of The Queen At Marseilles After Rubens (1577-1640)"
Antique engraving – “The landing of the Queen at the port of Marseille” After Pierre Paul Rubens (1577-1640) Engraved by Guillaume Duchange (1668-1757), 1710 Reprint published by the Chalcographie du Louvre (19th or early 20th century) work: 50 x 35.5 cm Framed and glazed: 70 x 54 cm Beautiful engraving from the plates preserved by the Chalcographie du Louvre, representing the landing of Marie de Medici in Marseille in 1600, wife of Henri IV. The composition is taken from the large series by Rubens painted for the Queen to glorify her reign, known as the Cycle of Marie de Medici (now preserved in the Louvre Museum). At the top, we can see the Queen being welcomed by the dignitaries, and at the bottom, the allegorical part: Neptune, Triton and the Nereids bringing their mythological support to the landing. The original plate was engraved in 1710 by Guillaume Duchange, after a drawing by Jean-Baptiste Nattier, himself inspired by Rubens' painting. The copy presented here is a later reprint (19th or early 20th century), printed on beautiful vellum paper with the dry stamp of the Chalcographie du Louvre, guaranteeing its authenticity. Very good print, rich in contrasts, in a glass frame.
