"A.charton Oil On Canvas Late 19th Early 20th Century "village On The Banks Of The Adour""
This oil on canvas signed A. Charton (dated 1940) is a beautiful hilly landscape scene with a village crossed by a river and an old multi-arched stone bridge. A village in the heart of a valley, with typical houses with red-tiled roofs. A very old multi-arched stone bridge in Romanesque or medieval style, which crosses a calm river. Gently rolling hills or mountains in the background, typical of regions such as Béarn, the inland Basque Country, or the Pyrenean foothills. Several villages bordering the Adour have this type of old bridge and this hilly relief, but I have not found the exact location! However, the touch is assured, the colors well balanced, and the classical composition is typical of the French landscape school of the early 20th century. Signed and dated lower right.
