"Jacques Callot, View Of The Louvre, 17th Century Etching"
View of the Louvre, etching of the second state (of five) with the name of CALLOT, circa 1629-1630. Very beautiful proof printed on laid paper. The prints of the views of Paris (this one and the second representing the view of the Pont Neuf) are among the most beautiful and famous of Jacques CALLOT. It is according to Lieure "one of the best memories of old Paris". If the prints of the first state are extremely rare, those of the second state are not common to find either in comparison with the following ones which will be retouched and will come out of Israël SILVESTRE. The view of the Louvre which is shown to us by CALLOT on the Seine side is the pretext to illustrate the animation of the city on the occasion of a nautical festival which took place in Paris on August 25. On the left we can see the Tour de Nesles, and on the right the Galerie du Louvre. Very well preserved, and framed in the 19th century in a gilded wooden strip. Dimensions of the print: 332 x 162 mm Dimensions of the frame: 42.5 x 25 cm
