Burin, a fine proof from Ovid's Metamorphoses series.Léonard Gaultier, in a tight format, depicted numerous heroes of Greek mythology, including Orpheus and Eurydice, Atalanta and Hippomena and Hippomenes, Venus and Adonis, Proserpine, Pygmalion and the statue, Myrra and Cinyras or Jupiter and Ganimedes.
Our precious print is presented under green wash and anti-reflective and UV-resistant glass. It is set in a carved and gilded Louis XVI period.

Engraver of kings Henri III, Henri IV and Louis XIII, Léonard Gaultier worked exclusively with burin. Son of a Parisian goldsmith merchant, draftsman and engraver, his work is considerable. After enlisting the services publishers in Lyon and Paris, he opened his first shop in Paris in 1585.
