19th Century Tampoura - India/pakistan - Bone Inlays - 5 Strings - Musical Instruments
Antique 5-stringed tamboura, painted wood, engraved with D-shaped inlays. Female tamboura from India/Pakistan.
Tuning from F to A. Length: 104.5 cm overall. Body depth: approximately 28 cm. Table diameter: approximately 30 cm.
Entirely made of hardwood, including the body, in the tradition of the Carnatic tampouras of South India.
The wooden pegs are beautifully crafted. One peg has been replaced.
The bridge is made of worked wood.
The entire instrument is enriched with circular motifs punched with a die and incisions.
Note the bone inlays and traces of red polychromy. This instrument dates from the end of the 19th century.
