"Greta Alessio (1942 - ) Bronze Clown"
Fans of fairground arts, circus and clowns: this magnificent sculpture is made for you! Admire the strength of this imposing double-patina bronze, representing a disheveled clown, resting on a black marble base. The quality of the casting is sublime! The burlesque and completely crazy side of this clown, a theme dear to Greta ALESSIO, gives this sculpture a particular interest. The strength of the work is accentuated by the sure and powerful blows of the chiselling. The safety pin attaching the trousers, as well as the large clown gloves, take us back to this childish, magical and magical world of the Monte Carlo circus where, each year, the Greta ALESSIO prize is awarded to the best circus artists. Signed at the base. Height 40 cm Width 31 cm Weight 6 kg Provenance: private princely collection from the south of France Greta ALESSIO is a well-known artist in the world of fairground arts! Born in 1942 in Monaco, she first devoted herself to dance during her adolescence, she attended the ceramics course at the Pavillon Bosio in Monaco-Ville. Her enthusiasm for ceramics led her to take a serious interest in sculpture from the early 1980s, so she went to Carrara and Pietrasanta where she tried, as an autodidact, the technique of terracotta, then bronze and finally marble. Since then, she divides her time between Monaco and the small town of Pietrasanta where she creates her creations (the Fonderia Del Chiaro, the Fonderia Mariani and il Laboratorio Henraux). Her work was the subject of a first exhibition in Monaco in April 1992. An admirer of Michelangelo and Japanese abstract sculpture, her repertoire is varied, her favorite themes being the circus, dance and mythology. The Greta Alessio Prize awarded at the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival testifies to one of her favorite themes. Today, Greta ALESSIO's sculptures can be admired in Paris, Monaco but also in Italy and the Balkans. Several of her works have found a place of choice in beautiful private collections throughout the world. Her works are rare on the market, as they are few in number.
