After Houdon, "diana The Huntress," Bronze With Antique Patina, Signed On The Base, Height 60 Cm
Artist: Jacques-antoine Houdon (1741-1828)
After Houdon, "Diana the Huntress,"
bronze with antique patina, signed on the base, height 60 cm (bow branches missing)
- €1,250 -
Early cast (second half of the 19th century), after the 1790 bronze by Jacques-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828).
Houdon's work was created in several stages. First, the model, dating from 1776, followed by the plaster cast in 1777 and the terracotta version (Frick Collection). Numerous different plaster versions were produced before the creation of a marble version in 1780, a lead version in 1781, and then three bronzes, including the one in the Louvre (1790) and the one in the Huntington Art Gallery (1782). Stylistically, Houdon's work here stands at a crossroads of influences. The nudity, the passivity, and the regularity of the features correspond to a certain classicism. But the elongated body, the swirling pose, and the fact that there is only one point of contact between the foot and the base highlight the Mannerist inspiration that characterizes this statue.
