Crouching Panther - Plaster Sculpture By François Hippolyte Peyrol - 19th Century
Signed plaster studio model of a crouching panther, its body stretched in a watchful posture. Very fine, energetic modeling with a spatula, typical of a sculptor's preparatory work. This proof could correspond to an original model, intended to serve as a basis for a bronze casting. François Hippolyte Peyrol François Hippolyte Peyrol (19th century) is best known as an art founder, collaborating in particular with the great animal sculptors of his time. He was the head of the Peyrol foundry, active in Paris, which produced high-quality castings, notably for Isidore Jules Bonheur, whose brother-in-law he was. In addition to his work as a founder, Peyrol was also a sculptor in his own right. Some plaster or bronze works bear his own signature, testifying to an assertive artistic practice. His work is fully in line with the aesthetic of animal naturalism, very fashionable under the Third Republic. Dimensions: Height 39 cm Width 108 cm Depth 40 cm
