"Patinated Bronze And Silver Chaplain, Naples, Circa 1840"
Cylindrical chaplain in patinated bronze, equipped with a flat handle and an upper slot for the introduction of offerings. The front is decorated with an oval plaque in embossed and chiseled silver, representing Our Lady of Mount Carmel with the Child Jesus, holding out the scapular to Saint Simon Stock, accompanied by a female figure in prayer (probably Saint Teresa of Avila). At the base of the scene, among the clouds, appears a fawn, symbol of purity and spiritual quest.
The composition, with its plastic modeling and well-marked contours, is characteristic of the devotional production intended for churches, confraternities and places of worship for the collection of donations.
The plaque bears the hallmark of the city of Naples, datable to around 1840.
Very good condition, with slight signs of wear consistent with the liturgical use of the object.
