"French School: Bronze With Gilded Patina On Marble Base, Angel Playing The Double Bass, 19th Century"
Charming bronze sculpture with gilded patina depicting a standing angel playing the double bass, finely executed. The subject, full of grace and movement, is brought to life by delicate gestures and beautiful technical mastery. The instrument is enhanced with chiseled floral details (notably roses on the sound box), bringing a refined decorative touch. The whole rests on a pink marble base veined with white, molded and bordered by a beaded frieze, offering a beautiful balance between material and elegance. Attributable to the French School, this work is part of the academic and decorative tradition of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period when angelic imagery, often linked to music, enjoyed great popularity in the decorative arts. Similar model exhibited at the Louvre Museum in the Department of Sculptures from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and Modern Times, ( as seen in the last picture). Very good condition overall - please note that the angel's violin bow is missing. Dimensions: Length 20 cm (7.87 inches), height 23 cm (9.06 inches), width 8.5 cm (3.35 inches). Weight: 3.560 kg.
