This rectangular carpet brilliantly illustrates the decorative art of 19th-century French manufacturers. Against a rich purple background, a sumptuous central rocaille-style cartouche frames a profusion of flowers in delicate tones—peonies, roses, carnations, and other ornamental varieties. The composition, both symmetrical and abundant, plays on contrasts of bright colors and pastel shades, enhanced by dark green and golden-brown leafy motifs.

The frame consists of a generously ornamented plant border, which accentuates the lush effect. The decorative style evokes the tradition of "flower" tapestries popular in the ceremonial settings of the Rococo period. The pictorial treatment of the foliage and flowers reveals a great mastery of design and dyeing, typical of the Aubusson and Beauvais workshops.

Despite its signs of wear, the rug retains remarkable vibrancy and demonstrates the textile refinement of the Enlightenment.

Size : 470 x 385 cm

Condition : As is, fragile, with significant wear and numerous areas of thinning.
Several holes are visible, particularly in the colored background areas.
The rug requires careful restoration.

Note : The colors on the reverse side of the rug, protected from light, retain a much greater vibrancy and freshness than those visible on the front side. The last two photos are of the back of the rug.
