Antique Khotan rugs originate from the ancient city of Khotan, located in the Central Asian region, formerly known as East Turkestan or Samarkand.

Its ideal location between China, Europe, and the Mediterranean made it a vibrant trading center, with significant textile production, particularly of silk and carpets.

These rugs were thus heavily influenced by Asian and Persian cultures, blending Chinese motifs with a rich palette of earthy colors, reds, golds, browns, and greens, typical of classic Persian rugs.

Antique Khotan rugs feature a distinctive long, narrow shape, with designs typically consisting of detailed borders, floral motifs, vines, and vases.

This rare rug reveals the wild beauty of an animal scene, frozen in nature.
