Clément Ader, (1841/1925) engineer and inventor, passionate about mechanics and electricity, inspired by bird watching, devoted himself very early on to the study of flight based on the technique of biomimicry.
In 1890, he achieved a historic feat with the Éole, a steam-powered flying machine that he managed to take off over a short distance. This feat is recognized as the first powered flight in history and Clément Ader as the pioneer of aviation.
He is recognized as the "Father of Aviation"
His main inventions
1868 The rubber tire. Replacement of the iron bandage of the wheels with rubber, the first solid tire.
1870-1880. The steam engine for aircraft. Lightweight steam engine intended for future aircraft.
1878. The improved telephone. Clément Ader worked on amplifying the sound of Graham Bell's telephone.
1878. The caterpillar.
1881. The theatrophone. System for listening to theatrical or musical performances remotely via the telephone network.
1890. The Éole. Flying machine equipped with a steam engine.
