"Rare Derby Porcelain Figurine Of Girl Seated In Armchair, Circa 1790 "
Antique Derby porcelain figure, c.1790, representing a
young girl seated in a finely modelled Louis XVI style chair. This figure is
unusually finely executed, with precise detail to the hand-painted floral dress
and gilt accents. The individually formed links of the necklace are visible
even under magnification, demonstrating remarkable craftsmanship. The chair
reflects neoclassical taste, fashionable in England and France at the end of
the 18th century. The base is painted in classic Derby colours with neoclassical
ornament.
The original factory mark was deliberately removed, likely due to export
restrictions or commercial strategy. The underside shows the classic wide flat
ring base with a central recess, a distinctive feature of Derby figures from
this period. A
rare and highly collectible example for advanced collectors of early English
porcelain, combining museum-level quality, authenticity, and excellent
preservation.
