Very beautiful clock from the Restoration period circa 1820. Made of
very finely chiseled mercury-gilded bronze. Large female figure with
the figure of Laura seated, leaning on her right arm, holding in her
left hand a medallion bearing the portrait of Petrarch. Bronze dial
highlighted by a guilloché border.
Rectangular base decorated with a bas-relief decorated with a swing accompanied by cupids and butterflies symbolizing the story of Laura and the Italian poet Petrarch... mad love, but without hope of reciprocity of feelings, with the lady of his heart...
