"Naqada II Predynastic Period Banded Decoration Vessel"
Ancient Egyptian Predynastic vase, dating to the Naqada II period (3500-3200 BC), decorated with bright red, horizontal, wavy bands surrounding the globular body and tapered neck. These wavy motifs are likely representative of the Nile River. Two lateral handles flank the vase on either side. Standing 30 cm tall, it has remarkable size and presence. Beautiful patina throughout, attesting to its longevity of nearly 5,500 years, but in excellent condition. The Naqada II period of ancient Egypt was an important time in the country's history, marking decisive advances in arts and crafts, as well as socially, from an egalitarian to a more complex culture of power. Provenance: Collection of a now-retired owner of a historic Italian auction house. Last purchased in the 1980s.
