Worcester Blue And White Tea Canister, C.1775
Artist: Worcester
A fine antique tea canister from the celebratedWorcester factory, dating to around 1775. Of lobed form with a short neck andflat shoulders, it is decorated in underglaze blue with the so-called"Pinecone and Fern" pattern — a less common botanical design used inWorcester porcelain during the late 18th century. The lid was originally toppedwith a small rose-shaped finial, typical of Worcester canisters of this period The smooth, slightly bluish glaze and crisp cobalt decoration are characteristicof Worcester's First Period porcelain. The base bears the underglaze bluecrescent mark of the factory. At the time, tea was an expensive luxury, and such compact canisterswere used to store small but precious amounts of loose leaf tea. Highly desirable among collectors of early English porcelain, thiscanister combines historical authenticity, elegant form, and decorative appeal, making it a fine example of Worcester’s First Period craftsmanship.Dimensions and Condition:Height: 16.5 cmA chip to the inner rim of the neck; otherwiseexcellent antique condition.
