"Representation Of Christ In Majesty On Illuminated Vellum From The 11th Century"
Incredible 11th-century illuminated depiction of Christ in Majesty on a fragment of raw vellum. This incredibly raw and naive depiction shows Christ seated on a throne, master of the world, flanked by two angels. Shining silver dots surround Christ's halo, drawing the eye. The reverse side of the vellum of this fragment is raw, unprepared for use; it could be a fragment of a larger work, as evidenced by the later repair of the vellum in the upper corner. This very rare and early work echoes the art of the Middle Ages and bears witness to art history as a whole. Delivered in a contemporary frame, it highlights the imperfection of the vellum fragment as a whole.
