"Clock With Celestial Globe Carried By Putti, Louis XVI Style, 19th Century"
High-quality Louis XVI style clock, with interesting bronze work, made at the beginning of the Third Republic around 1878. The horizontal spiral balance movement signed Japy & Cie, is housed in a celestial globe in green patinated bronze, decorated with Roman numerals and stars in gilt bronze. It rests on three dancing putti in gilt bronze, finely chiseled, carrying the celestial sphere. The base is in white Carrara marble, decorated with floral garlands in gilt bronze of high quality chiseling, comparable to those found on the furniture of Paul Sormani. The bronzes retain their original gilding, alternating matte and shiny finishes. Movement signed Japy & Cie, medal of honor - dated 1878, equipped with a horizontal spiral balance, without wire suspension, with S/F adjustment racket. Complete but non-functional mechanism, to be overhauled. The original hands are present, but the fixing cap is missing. Key not included. Very good overall condition of the marble and bronzes. Height: 50 cm
