"Important Pair Of Paris Porcelain Vases Signed Jules Tiélès"
Important pair of Paris porcelain vases signed Jules Tiélès – Napoleon III / Belle Époque period, circa 1880–1900 We offer for sale this remarkable pair of Paris porcelain baluster vases with handles, mounted on a gilded square base. These large pieces are entirely hand-decorated in a rich carmine background enhanced with fine gold gilding, framing cartouches animated with gallant scenes and romantic landscapes in the 18th century style, alternating with bouquets of polychrome flowers. The handles decorated with scrolls with water leaves and rosettes, the stylized laurel leaf branches, the friezes of water leaves, foliage and pearls evoke the great productions of the Sèvres factory of the second half of the 19th century. Signature and marks: Jules Tiélès – Porcelaine de Paris Under the vases is a double mark painted in underglaze blue: "JTP PARIS" in a triangle (interpreted as Jules Tiélès Paris) And an apocryphal mark of Sèvres (double L intertwined with a central letter, here "S"), often used at the time to emphasize a stylistic lineage without the intention of deception. Jules Tiélès, a decorator active between Paris and LimogesThe name Jules Tiélès, sometimes spelled Jacques Tiélès, appears on several pieces of Paris porcelain decorated between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. These works are often characterized by:-high quality painting,-bright colored backgrounds (carmine, lapis blue, empire green),-scenes inspired by the 18th century,-and a recurring use of apocryphal Sèvres marks, in the historicist taste of the time.Although the history of this workshop or decorator remains to be precisely documented, certain pieces signed JTP are sometimes associated with productions on white from Limoges, then decorated in Paris, or even with a collaborative work with the Samson house, famous for its learned reinterpretations of ancient styles.Style and context:This pair perfectly illustrates the decorative taste during the Belle Époque, between nostalgia for the 18th century, bourgeois refinement and technical perfection. These vases are as much works of art as spectacular decorative elements, intended for the opulent interiors of the late 19th century. Dimensions: Height: 51 cm Width at handles: 25 cm Condition: Very good general condition. No chips or cracks. Slight wear from use to the gold. Original parts, not pierced for electrification.
