Large oval tray in painted sheet metal – Directoire / Empire periodSuperb oval tray in painted sheet metal, with a luminous yellow background, decorated with a very fine black monochrome decoration. In its center, an allegorical neoclassical scene entitled “Water”, representing a draped female figure, accompanied by a putto and a horse, in a style inspired by Antiquity. This central composition is surrounded by a sumptuous, abundant floral crown: peonies, roses, tulips and other flowers are finely treated in an almost engraved style, revealing a great mastery of the decoration. The border is highlighted by a black net punctuated with regular decorative motifs, while two side handles openworked in the sheet metal ensure the utilitarian function of the piece.This tray combines decorative elegance with the refinement of the Directoire / Empire style, and testifies to the romantic and picturesque taste of the early 19th century. It will fit perfectly on a piece of furniture or displayed vertically on an easel in a classic, country chic or even eclectic interior.
