Rare Etruscan Clock, Late Louis XVI Period
A rare and important clock known as 'Etruscan', made of white Carrara marble and chased and gilded bronze (matte and shiny gold), decorated with a planisphere above the movement, highlighted by sphinxes, scrolls, and palmettes, supported by two patinated bronze sphinxes, topped with plumes, standing on small altars adorned with a pair of dragonflies drinking from a fountain and supported by four small claw feet, resting on a rectangular base on four small cylindrical feet, embellished with a frieze of alternating beads (minor missing piece on one side at the back), Etruscan masks, and a bas-relief depicting two goats tasting grape clusters from a basket.
Enamel dial, signed 'Thiery à Paris', indicating the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals (minor restorations to the enamel); suspension by wire.
End of the Louis XVI period.
