Elegant modernist armchair designed for a lounge or executive setting, circa 1960.
The frame is crafted in solid wood with a subtle setback between the upholstered seat and the base, resting on four slightly tapered legs – the front legs straight, the back legs gently splayed in a “sabre” shape. The front stretcher is gracefully curved, adding dynamism to the silhouette.
The seat, backrest and armrests are upholstered in taut black synthetic leather, outlined with a matching piped trim. The backrest is punctuated by three button tufts, providing a discreet graphic rhythm.
Dimensions- Height: 96 cm
- Width: 67.5 cm
- Depth: 60 cm
Condition
Very good overall condition. Minor wear to the wood varnish and corners. Original upholstery, untouched.
The slight recess between the frame and the seat adds depth and balance to the design. The splayed back leg echoes the reclining angle of the backrest, while the tapering legs lend a sense of lightness and elegance.
The rigour of the design, the quality of execution, and the well-balanced proportions recall the best Scandinavian and American productions of the 1950s–60s.
