"Document Holder In Gilded Morocco Leather With Small Irons, Louis XV Period, 15th Century, 18th Century"
18th century document holder from the Aristay de Chateaufort family. An essential item of the nobility of the robe, this document holder appears to belong to François Aristay de Chateaufort (1704-1765). The latter pursued a career as a lawyer before being appointed advisor to the sovereign court of Lorraine on February 4, 1743. The family coat of arms is engraved on the clasp: "silver with a gules lion, with a golden chevron, over all charged on the right with a vert branch and on the left with three gules roses." This coat of arms is accompanied by a chiseled decoration of acanthus leaves and crenellated turrets. Interesting work on the morocco leather decorated with fleurs-de-lis on the front, as well as a scattering of gilded flowers with small irons on the flap inside. Rare with its original key whose stem is triangular. A leather desk pad is included inside the document holder. My thanks go to Jean Pierre Michel for identifying this coat of arms.
