Magnificent Dutch Silver Chatelaine with Horse (circa 1900) A superb piece of craftsmanship: a Dutch silver chatelaine dating from around 1900, fully hallmarked and in excellent condition. Central motif: The eye is immediately drawn to the finely detailed openwork central ornament depicting a horse. Around it are delicate, finely crafted silver chains, characteristic of Dutch silverwork of this period.
Hanging accessories:
Plough – symbol of agriculture and work (bearing 2 hallmarks).
Watch key – both practical and decorative (hallmarked with the sword mark).
Comb – finely crafted.
Flail (threshing tool) – rarely depicted, with 2 hallmarks including the sword mark.

Silver Hallmarks: This chatelaine is richly hallmarked with the Dutch sword mark (used after 1814), present on:
The upper clasp
The central upper ornament
The two outer chains (each hallmarked with a sword)
