Ancient Nubian Torch-bearing Floor Lamp
Painted wooden statue, resting on a base also made of painted wood, depicting a Moor holding a branch with gilded iron leaves at the ends of which are placed 5 fake electrified candles with small E14 socket.
The floor lamp was made in Italy around the mid-20th century, as a copy of 18th-century Venetian torchères.
The iconography of the Moor was very widespread in Baroque Venice, a city that maintained intense commercial relations. The presence of slaves and African merchants in the Serenissima contributed to the creation of handcrafted pieces celebrating exoticism.
