Kashan Cypress Rug, 128 X 203 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool In Iran Circa 1950, Very Good Condition

Kashan carpet with cypress tree of life decoration, and beautiful curvilinear design, architecture, twin columns, bouquets of flowers in vases and cornucopias, birds including peacocks.
On a field, burgundy red and a midnight blue border background, numerous bouquets of pistachio flowers and roses.
This decorative carpet above all, takes up the decoration of a prayer by presenting a flowered mihrab accompanied by two long twin columns with pendants for the base and vases for the top.
For the Kashan as for the Kirman, a mihrab placed on a carpet does not always give vocation to prayer, but also to a style of carpet intended for the decoration of houses.
Two drawings of mausoleums bring a sacred character to the room, softened by the flowers and peacocks.
Between two peacocks, symbol of immortality, we see the cypress, Mainu Spentas, linked to the ancient Zoroastrian religion. It is, it is believed associated with the light of the God Ormuzd and to Zoroaster, upon his death, is transported to the highest mountain and there, he is transformed.
Other legends say, the highest cypress in the world, the cypress of paradise, planted by Zoroaster and Kashmar (Torchiz).
We easily understand the importance of each symbol on this type of carpet.
This piece measures 128 cm wide by 203 cm long. It is in very good condition, even perfect.
The creation of this piece was around 1950. Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in the center of Iran.
## We find in the production of Kirman the same kind of decoration with much more rigor, straight lines.
At the time of the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of production of carpets of legendary splendor.
Carpets with fine weaving, of a very rich composition, were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
The craft industry has stopped in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of carpet production began with carpets distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance.
These examples are called Kachan Motashemi, from the name of the most famous master weaver of the end of the 19th century. The decorations are varied and offer a meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, subjects with figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant setting, trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their designs, the Kachan took their place among the best Persian carpets.
