Description Architecture: Magnificent presence and elegance These candelabras, of remarkable presence and elegance, are crafted from chased and gilded bronze. Each piece features three arms of light inspired by the classical forms of Greek sheaths and volutes. Their rich decoration is adorned with asparagus and fluting, ending in goat's shanks covered with stylized acanthus leaves. At the center of each candelabra sits a flaming torch with concave sections, resting on a truncated column base decorated with rosettes. The magnificent circular base, with elegant projections, is adorned with large drooping acanthus leaves. The three light points have delightful hollow basins, richly decorated with acanthus leaves, gadroons and a laurel wreath. From these basins rise sockets in the shape of antique vases, mounted on fluted and striated pedestals, adorned with laurel leaves. The bobeches, for their part, are delicately decorated with pearls. Thanks to their versatile design, these candelabras will blend harmoniously into many decors, whether plaCondition report: Very good general condition, Beautiful original gilding with matt and shiny. Traces of use and age. Fine chiseling of great execution. Provenance: Private Parisian Collection, Period: Napoleon III 19th century. The very elaborate design of these candelabras evokes the projects of architects and ornamentalists such as Jean-Louis Prieur, Victor Louis and Jean-Charles Delafosse. It is probably the name of the latter that should be remembered as being at the origin of the model, if we are to believe a drawing representing a project for a candelabra where we find certain similarities with our pair, notably in the termination of the arms. The composition is rigorously symmetrical, perfectly balanced despite the presence of three arms of light, and designed to allow the object to be appreciated from all angles. Stylistically, it asserts a certain rigor linked to the influence of Greek taste and inspired by the classicism of Louis XIV, even a reminiscence of certain projects by André-Charles Boulle. A pair of candelabra of this model is kept in the Jones collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (985-1882). Literature: H. Ottomeyer, P.
