Large green glazed earthenware oil jug with 2 handles
SADIRAC (Gironde) or SAINTONGE, 18th century
Very good condition, without any restoration (which is rare, especially for the 2 handles and the neck)
The green enamel mainly covers the upper part and the handles, but also creates very aesthetic drips
The glaze remains in good condition on this ceramic (it often contained oil which ended up penetrating the material and damaging the exterior enamel.)
We will also note the potter's thumb marks which allowed the craftsman to fix the handles to the main body of the pottery with slip, and which directly contribute to the decoration and aesthetics of the jug.
Dimensions:
33 cm height
& 23 to 19 cm (diameters with, and without the handle and the neck)
