Pewter Wedding Water Fountain Lavabo Cistern, 18th-century Swiss Craftsmanship

Pewter wedding fountain, anonymous Swiss work dated 1702

The body of the fountain features a serliana, whose central arch is supported by figure-of-term or Atlantean figures, in homage to Italian Renaissance architecture. It is mounted on the wall via two side brackets shaped like seashells.

The base features two lions serving as supporters for the coats of arms bearing the names of the bride and groom: Heinrich Steire and Margreta Ritshart.

No master’s mark

Condition: signs of wear, particularly on the back; the spout has likely been restored, as the pewter spout is slightly too large to fit into the opening
