HAUTE EPOQUE JEWEL
Italy 2nd part of 16th century
Pendant, painting on a copper plate and its finely cut and chiseled brass frame
The miniature medallion is very finely painted on a gilded background.
This exceptional portrait of Saint, bust, seen in profile or 3/4 perfectly captures her ecstatic expression.
It could be a portrait of St. Catherine of Siena?, protector saint of Italy, and very represented in the Middle Ages.
The feminine face, with long wavy blond hair, is haloed and oriented towards the sky, as if the saint were turning around.
She wears a blue cape and a red blouse embroidered with fine gold motifs, with a collar in fine lace
Its original frame, in brass, is very finely cut in its palmette outline.
Very good condition;
some very slight lacks on the golden background or on the very white complexion of the Saint, visible on photos
