Large Work Box, Exotic Work Circa 1920
Here is a large work box, made in the islands (probably Madagascar, because there are excellent cabinetmakers and very high quality woods). The lid has received marquetry in the art nouveau spirit: in a tondo a lively landscape, surrounded by a geometric decoration. The chosen woods are very light and form a warm whole. There is a slot at the back of the lid (it is very large and must have played a little). The opening is secured by a welcome modern chain, and the whole is in good condition.
