Joseph Stany Gauthier, pseudonym of Joseph Stanislas Gauthier, born April 30, 1883 in Carcassonne (Aude) and died June 4, 1969 in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) is a French painter, architect-decorator, teacher and museum curator. Art historian Joseph Stany Gauthier (1883-1969) was a professor at the Nantes School of Fine Arts before becoming curator of the Château de Nantes Museum from 1922 to 1969 and its two museums: the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions, and the Museum of Decorative Arts. He also painted Brittany, harbor scenes, boats, cathedrals, and Breton landscapes. Some of his works are notably preserved at the Museum of Fine Arts in Nantes.
