In psychic experience, the mirror acts not as a surface of narcissistic confirmation, but as the threshold where the fracture of our identity bursts forth: it is in this optical encounter that the idealized self collapses before the irruption of the disquieting, revealing that the truth of our face always conceals a strange, inaccessible core. As we gaze into the mirror, the mechanisms of repression give way, and the most disturbing details - an unexpected asymmetry, the fixity of a pupil, or a shadow of weariness that evokes finitude - emerge like the return of the repressed, stripping us of the social mask with which we try to fool the world. This untamed reflection confronts us with the gaze of the inner Other, a silent double that reflects back to us not the image we want to project, but the raw evidence of our own enigma and the impulses that secretly govern us.
