"Antwerp 1830-1840, Solid Silver Pap Boat , Thomassen Goldsmith, Papschuitje"
Extremely rare pap boat in solid silver with the guarantee hallmarks of the Antwerp office (Antwerpen) and the master goldsmith hallmark of Thomassen. It is deeper than usual and keeps remnants of vermeil (gold) inside the basin. Called "canard "in French because of their shape, these small containers in porcelain, ceramic, glass, tin and silver were used to feed the sick and weakened. The examples in solid silver are rather rare and generally English. This is only the third baby bottle of Belgian origin that I have found in thirty years of trade....
