Vermeil Sugar Bowl, France, 1819–1838
A vermeil sugar bowl resting on a fluted base, rectangular in shape with a baluster-style body and a rounded, bulging belly. The neck, with a wide, curved opening, is adorned with beaded friezes and topped by a lid whose crown is decorated with a flower-bud-shaped knob. The sugar bowl features two openwork side handles with palmette-shaped attachments.
950/1000 silver, Vieillard hallmarks, Parisian craftsmanship, 1819–1838.
Master silversmith’s hallmark: Antoine Levasseur, active in Paris from 1825 to 1862.
