Likely crafted from limewood, the frame was originally intended to house a sacred image—possibly of a saint—and to be placed above an altar. The strong three-dimensionality and refined balance of decorative elements make it a remarkable example of late Renaissance wood carving.
A recently added antiqued mirror with a wooden backing now allows the frame to be used in decorative contexts, whether classic or eclectic.

Condition report:The gilding is generally well preserved, with some localized losses, especially on edges and protruding areas. Traces of past woodworm activity are visible but completely inactive today. The carving remains intact with no visible losses. Structural cracks and age-related splits are evident, consistent with the object's period and authenticity.
