"Pair Of Silver Candlesticks With Gadroon Decor – 18th Century Germany "
Pair of silver candlesticks with gadroon decoration - 18th century Germany Rare pair of baluster-shaped silver candlesticks, resting on an octagonal base decorated with vertical gadroons. The stem, also gadrooned in two rhythmic bulges, presents a beautiful alternation of cut sides and curves. The shaft is decorated with two very prominent gadrooned rings, typical of the Germanic style of the 18th century. The vigorous and structured decoration, while retaining great elegance, evokes productions from South Germany around 1750-1780. The hallmarks are very attenuated, with the presence of an old striche on the reverse, testifying to a verification or an alloy control. Three barely legible hallmarks nevertheless appear on the base, one of which could be a city hallmark or master goldsmith hallmark, without formal identification possible at this stage. The work is clearly of Germanic origin, of good level of execution. Characteristics: Height: 16.5 cm Total weight: 691 g Material: silver (alloy not visibly titled, old) Period: 18th century Probable origin: South Germany Condition: very good general condition, traces of use and age, hallmarks not very legible, striche visible on the reverse
