The artist
Alfred August Felix (Alf) BACHMANN is a German painter born in 1863 in Dirschau. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russia). He moved to Munich in 1891 and died in Ambach in 1956.
Bachmann is famous for his views of Venice, Istanbul but also the coasts of Portugal and Normandy. He focused primarily on coastal landscapes, but did not neglect meadows and hills. From 1887 onwards, he regularly participated in the exhibitions at the Glaspalast in Munich. In 1913, he won a gold medal at the Glaspalast exhibition in Berlin. In 1917, he received the Grand Austrian Gold Medal for services rendered and, in 1952, the German Service Cross.
His works are held in several German museums. They have been the subject of numerous public auctions in France and abroad.
