Measurements: cm W 65 x D 66 x H 104, seat height 47 cm

This refined armchair was made in France, in Louis XVI style, in the early nineteenth century. Its wooden structure is carved with elements of classic taste. The back, shaped like a shield, is crowned by a carving in the shape of a wreath of flowers closed by a ribbon. The profile is composed of several moulded reserves, among which, the one in the center, carved with leaf motifs. Laterally it is decorated with sculptures in the round cone shape. The two armrests, with velvet lining, end with curl and carving with acanthus leaf and join the seat with curved elements. The band under the seat that surrounds the chair proposes the same moulding of the back. The four legs originate from nut elements adorned with a flower carving and a circular capital. The legs have an inverted cone trunk and grooved. Very elegant and decorative, it can be easily placed in any environment and furnishing context. Stylistically it has clear references to the works of the French cabinetmaker Jean-Baptiste-Claude Séne (1747-1803). His production is mainly concentrated during the reign of Louis XVI, for which he created several chairs, together with his brother Claude II. Jean-Baptiste-Claude came from a well-known family of cabinetmakers, already active for King Louis XV and became master in 1769. In 1785 Jean-Baptiste-Claude received the title of supplier of royal furniture, especially for the Palace of Versailles, the Palace of Fontainebleau and the Palace of Saint-Cloud. His works were prominent in the private apartments of Marie Antoinette.
