"A Pair Of Louis XVI Period (1774 - 1793) Armchairs. "
A pair of Louis XVI period moulded lacquered gray beechwood cabriolet armchairs, "chapeau de gendarme" seat back. Tapered legs.
The armchairs are stamped "Antoine Gaillard".
Louis XVI period Parisian work.
France.
18th century.

Antoine Gaillard was received "Maître" in 1781. He specialized in Louis XVI armchairs. His works meticulously executed in classical shapes were of beautiful quality, decorated with delicate sculptures of acanthus and rosettes. All his furniture has beautiful proportions and elegant lines.
The imperial furniture guard commissioned him the furniture for the living and dining rooms for the service of the "Grands Officiers" of the crown.
