"Large Sphinx Vase, Napoleon III Period"
Important 19th century urn forming a baluster vase from the Napoleon III period attributed to Ernest Chaplet for Choisy-le-Roi in glazed ceramic with a oxblood red and antique green jasper decoration adorned with a gilt bronze bas-relief with Bacchus cherubs flanked by large leafy handles supporting rings with a laurel wreath motif, the whole is supported by a tripod base depicting sphinxes with feminine features crowned with flowered baskets and holding a torch-lit shield on the front. Good condition, dimensions: 58 cm high X 25 cm wide.
