"Emile Gallé (1846-1904) Pair Of Large Candelabra With Heraldic Lions"
Emile Gallé (1846-1904) spectacular pair of candelabra with heraldic lions, a work of the Nancy School dating from the late 19th century, circa 1890. They feature a polychrome red and gold underglaze earthenware structure in the Japonisme style. The two roaring lions stand as torchères supporting a crenellated turret bearing the coats of arms of Nancy and Bar-le-Duc, recalling the title of Stanislas (Duke of Lorraine and Bar). The front of the candelabra is adorned with a fleur-de-lis banner, and the candelabra are surmounted by four neo-Gothic candle arms in finely chased, patinated gilt bronze. Both pieces are signed Gallé à Nancy and bear the monogram EG with the Cross of Lorraine. They are offered in very good, original condition, with only a few minor chips in the glaze located along the base. Dimensions: 67cm high x 35cm wide.
