Jean Signovert was an abstract painter, draughtsman and engraver associated with the Ecole de Paris, born in 1919 and died in 1981 in Paris. After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Etienne, he met Aimé Maeght in 1946, who exhibited his work in his gallery. He was also an engraver, working for and with Braque, Poliakoff, Arp and Fautrier, among others. His painted works are characterized by plain backgrounds on which he places geometric shapes linked by lines. He was appointed professor at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1980.
